Authorization to practice maximal effort tests

The profession of kinesiologist takes an important step towards its professional recognition

Montreal, June 18, 2025 — The Quebec kinesiologist Federation (QKF) enthusiastically welcomes the adoption of the regulation authorizing kinesiologists to perform maximal effort tests with the aim of contributing to the evaluation or rehabilitation of cardiac, respiratory or vascular functions. This is a major victory for the profession, which is finally seeing its expertise recognized.

This new regulation will help reduce waiting times for stress tests, improve access to care and strengthen interprofessional teams in health establishments. With this gesture, the government is choosing innovation and prevention, by affirming its confidence in kinesiologists, highly qualified health professionals.

This authorization of activity by means of a regulation adopted by the College of Physicians of Quebec (CPQ) is the result of positive collaborative work between the QKF, the Association of Cardiologists of Quebec, the CPQ and the Office des professions du Québec.

If the QKF welcomes this gesture, it reiterates at the same time its desire to continue the steps leading to the creation of a professional order for kinesiologists, awaited for many years. In this sense, the adopted regulation is an important first step in this direction.
